The Magnum Energy MS4448PAE is a 4,400VA pure sine wave split phase inverter charger delivering native 120/240VAC output from a single 48VDC unit — making it the right choice for off-grid homes and critical backup installations that need to power 240V appliances alongside standard 120V circuits without a step-up transformer or a paired inverter setup. ETL listed to ANSI/UL1741 and CSA C22.2 No. 107.1-01, it brings 94% peak efficiency, power factor corrected charging, and Magnum's 5-stage Battery Saver™ charging to installations where full split-phase service is required.
Most residential and rural off-grid installations require split-phase 120/240VAC service to power well pumps, electric ranges, dryers, water heaters, and sub-panels with 240V circuits. Single-phase inverters cannot supply these loads without a separate step-up transformer, which adds cost, weight, and another point of failure. The MS4448PAE generates true 120/240VAC split-phase output directly from its 48V battery bank — both legs simultaneously, at 29.7A per leg on 120VAC or 18.3A on 240VAC — eliminating the need for any additional conversion hardware to serve a full residential electrical panel.
The MS4448PAE's power factor corrected charger draws real, usable power from the AC source rather than reactive current. At a power factor greater than 0.95, it pulls close to 1:1 real watts per VA of generator capacity — meaning a generator rated for a given output actually delivers close to that full rating to the charging circuit. This improves charging speed on undersized or fuel-limited generators and reduces the nuisance trips and voltage sag that non-PFC chargers cause when demanding high charging current. The 16ms transfer time between AC input and battery-backed inverter operation keeps connected loads running through source transitions without disruption.
The integrated charger manages battery health through five distinct stages. After Bulk, Absorb, and Float, an optional Equalize stage (activated via the ME-ARC remote control) periodically balances flooded cell banks to prevent stratification. Battery Saver™ mode then holds the battery in a low-draw maintenance state between charge cycles, reducing unnecessary cycling and the capacity degradation it causes. The 15 ft. battery temperature sensor included with the unit enables automatic charge voltage adjustment based on battery temperature — extending service life across the operating range from −4°F to 140°F (−20°C to 60°C).
The MS4448PAE operates on a 48V battery bank across 36–64VDC and is compatible with flooded, gel, AGM, and lithium battery chemistries via selectable charging profiles. Two AC input legs each accept up to 30AAC from grid or generator sources at 60–140VAC. For single-inverter installations, Magnum's MMP Series pre-wired enclosures integrate all required disconnects, breakers, and bypass switches in one panel. For multi-unit parallel installations, MP Series enclosures and MPX extensions support 2–4 stacked inverters with front-mounted connections and easy front panel operation. Additional compatible accessories include the ME-ARC advanced remote, ME-AGS-N auto generator start, ME-BMK battery monitor kit, MagWeb wireless/Ethernet monitoring modules, and ME-SBC smart battery combiner.
The Magnum Energy MS4448PAE is the right choice for 48V off-grid and backup system builders who need native 120/240VAC split-phase output, generator-friendly PFC charging, and the option to scale to nearly 18kVA through parallel stacking — all in an ETL/UL1741-listed, corrosion-resistant enclosure backed by a three-year warranty. For installations that require full residential electrical service from battery power without external transformers or complex multi-inverter wiring, the MS4448PAE delivers Magnum's proven MS platform in its most capable single-unit configuration.
