About product
The Victron Energy MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-50 120V is a 3,000VA pure sine wave victron inverter charger that adds full ESS (Energy Storage System) functionality to the proven MultiPlus platform—enabling grid-parallel self-consumption, automatic battery backup, and programmable feed-in prevention in a slim 5.8 in. deep, UL1741-listed enclosure. At 95% maximum efficiency and just 2W in search mode idle, it is built for 48V installations where continuous operation and low parasitic draw both matter.
The defining capability of the MultiPlus-II over a standard inverter charger is its built-in ESS functionality. With an optional external 100A AC current sensor, the MultiPlus-II monitors real-time grid consumption and uses that data to optimize battery discharge for self-consumption—drawing from the battery to offset grid import before pulling from the utility. It can also be configured to prevent grid feed-in entirely, avoiding regulatory complications in markets where export is restricted or uncompensated. In a grid outage, it seamlessly transitions to battery-backed inverter mode in under 20ms, keeping critical loads online without interruption. These three modes—self-consumption, feed-prevention, and backup—can be configured simultaneously through Victron's ESS Assistant software.
PowerControl sets a ceiling on AC input current draw so the MultiPlus-II accounts for other running loads before charging the battery, preventing nuisance breaker trips on limited grid connections or undersized generators. PowerAssist extends this further: when instantaneous load demand exceeds what the single AC input can supply alone, the battery supplements the shortfall in real time—allowing a smaller generator or limited shore power supply to serve loads that would otherwise overload it. When demand subsides, the surplus capacity recharges the battery automatically.
The main AC output transfers to battery-backed power in under 20ms when grid input fails—fast enough to keep computers, networking hardware, and sensitive electronics running without disruption. The 32A auxiliary output is live only when AC input is present, making it the correct connection for loads that must never draw from the battery—resistance heaters, water heaters, and other high-consumption appliances that would deplete storage unnecessarily during an outage. This built-in separation eliminates the need for external load-shedding contactors in most residential and light commercial installations.
The MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-50 integrates fully into Victron's VE.Bus architecture for parallel, split-phase, and three-phase multi-unit configurations. Paired with a Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX, it connects to Victron's VRM portal for free remote monitoring, remote settings changes, and alarm delivery by email or push notification. On-site options include the Digital Multi Control Panel, VE.Bus Smart Dongle for Bluetooth access via the VictronConnect app, and the Interface MK3-USB for full configuration via VEConfigure software. Two general-purpose communication ports support lithium-ion BMS communication and other system integration needs.
The MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-50 operates on a 48V battery bank across 38–66VDC and supports lithium-ion (including LiFePO4) and lead-acid chemistries with a built-in battery temperature sensor. The optional 100A external AC current sensor (sold separately) is required to activate ESS self-consumption and feed-prevention modes. AC wiring uses 13mm² (6 AWG) terminals; battery connections use M8 bolts. It integrates natively with Victron MPPT solar chargers, GX monitoring devices, SmartShunt and BMV-712 battery monitors, and Victron lithium battery systems. Off-grid, grid-interactive, and ESS configurations are deployed via Victron's Assistant software framework through VE.Bus.
The Victron Energy MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-50 120V is the right choice for 48V system builders who need a UL1741-listed victron inverter charger with built-in ESS capability—self-consumption optimization, feed-prevention, and sub-20ms grid backup—in a slim, wall-mount enclosure that fits where full-depth units cannot. At 95% efficiency, 2W search mode idle, and deep integration with the VE.Bus and VRM ecosystem, it brings professional-grade energy management to residential and light commercial installations without requiring a separate energy management controller.
