About product

The Victron Energy Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 120V (QUA125021100) is a 5,000 VA pure sine wave inverter/charger for 12V DC battery systems, delivering 120 VAC output at 60 Hz for off-grid, hybrid, and grid-interactive applications. What distinguishes the Quattro from Victron's MultiPlus line is its two independent AC inputs with an integrated transfer switch — allowing simultaneous connection to a utility grid and a generator, or two generators, with automatic source selection — combined with two separately configurable AC outputs that give installers precise control over which loads can draw from the battery bank and which cannot. Available through A1 SolarStore as a Victron charger inverter for residential and light commercial energy systems.

Note: UL 1741 certification applies only to the Quattro 48V 5kVA and 10kVA models. The Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 is certified to EN-IEC 60335-1, EN-IEC 60335-2-29, and EN-IEC 62109-1 but is not UL 1741 listed. Verify with your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and utility interconnection requirements before specifying this unit for grid-tied applications in the United States.

Dual AC inputs: the defining Quattro advantage

The Quattro's core distinction from the Victron MultiPlus is its two independent AC inputs, each with its own configurable current limit and priority logic. In a typical residential installation, AC Input 1 connects to the utility grid and AC Input 2 connects to a generator. When grid power is present, the Quattro uses it and charges the battery bank with whatever current remains after PowerControl calculates the active AC load draw. If the grid fails, the Quattro transfers to the generator automatically. If neither source is active, the inverter takes over from the battery bank — the transfer happening in under 20 milliseconds, fast enough that computers, NAS drives, and other sensitive electronics continue operating without interruption or data loss.

PowerControl and PowerAssist

PowerControl prevents overloading a limited AC source by setting a maximum current draw on each input. The Quattro monitors the connected loads in real time and allocates only the remaining headroom to battery charging — useful when connected to a generator rated below the full load of the building or to a limited shore power pedestal. PowerAssist extends this further: when instantaneous load demand spikes above what the AC source can supply, the Quattro immediately draws the shortfall from the battery bank, then recharges it when load drops. For systems with undersized generators or occasional high-demand loads — well pumps, air conditioning compressors, power tools — this means the generator is never overloaded and the battery absorbs and releases peak demand automatically.

Two AC outputs and load management

The Quattro provides two separately wired AC output circuits. The main output (AC Out 1) has no-break functionality — it remains live whether the unit is in inverter mode or pass-through mode, with the sub-20ms transfer on source loss. The second output (AC Out 2) is live only when an AC source is present on one of the inputs. Loads that should not draw from the battery — water heaters, EV chargers, high-wattage appliances — can be wired to AC Out 2, where they will de-energize automatically during a grid or generator outage, protecting battery reserves for critical loads on AC Out 1.

Parallel and three-phase stacking

Two Quattro units can be configured for 240V split-phase output; three units for three-phase. Up to four sets of three units can be paralleled via VE.Bus for a combined 120kVA of inverter output and more than 1,600A of charging capacity in a single coherent system — a ceiling relevant to light commercial and larger off-grid installations. Configuration is handled through VE.Bus Quick Configure and VE.Bus System Configurator software. Stand-alone installations can be configured in minutes using the DIP switch procedure without additional software.

Victron ecosystem integration

The Quattro communicates via VE.Bus with Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, and other Victron GX devices, enabling full system integration with MPPT solar chargers, battery monitors, and the Victron Remote Management (VRM) online portal for free cloud monitoring, remote settings changes, and email or push notification alarms. The VictronConnect app provides Bluetooth or USB configuration and monitoring from a smartphone or PC. Three programmable relays allow automated genset start/stop, alarm outputs, or DC undervoltage signals to external systems. The unit is lithium-ion battery compatible with a built-in battery temperature sensor for adaptive charge voltage compensation.

Applications

  • Off-grid residential and commercial: 4,000W continuous at 25°C from a 12V battery bank; peak 10,000W for motor-start loads.
  • Hybrid solar with generator backup: Dual AC inputs allow simultaneous grid and generator connection with automatic priority switching.
  • Shore power and marina: PowerControl prevents shore power circuit overload while maximizing available charge current.
  • Critical load backup: Sub-20ms transfer on AC Out 1 sustains computers, networking, and medical equipment without interruption.

Why choose the Victron Energy Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100?

The Victron Energy Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 is the right choice when a system requires two independent AC input sources — a capability the MultiPlus does not offer — combined with Victron's established VE.Bus ecosystem, PowerControl/PowerAssist load management, and the flexibility to stack into split-phase or three-phase configurations. The 220A house battery charge current, 10,000W peak output, and sub-20ms transfer time are competitive at this power class, and the VRM portal integration provides remote visibility without additional hardware costs. For 12V battery system builds that need dual-source AC input management and the full Victron monitoring ecosystem, the Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 is available through A1 SolarStore.
