On August 7, 2025, A1 SolarStore hosted a timely conversation with Hounen Solar’s Bill Bentley (Sales Manager) and Fabian Alva (Marketing Manager) to unpack how recent tariff moves, domestic manufacturing, and changing incentives are shaping the U.S. solar market. This post pulls out the most actionable insights from that discussion.
6 practical takeaways for contractors & buyers
- If you’re on the fence about installing residential solar, consider acting now.
With some federal tax incentives shortening or expiring, the webinar panel recommended urgency for homeowners who qualify — but always verify eligibility before signing. - U.S.-assembled modules aren’t necessarily lower quality.
Hounen emphasized that modules built for the U.S. market follow the same bill of materials and QA whether assembled overseas or domestically; warranties and spec sheets can be identical. - Domestic content is nuanced — and important for government projects.
Different components (frames, glass, junction boxes, cells, etc.) contribute percentages toward domestic-content thresholds used for bonus credits and Buy America–type requirements. As domestic cell production scales, more projects will meet those thresholds without extreme customization. - Expect short-term supply/demand tightness, then catch-up.
The panel expects demand may temporarily outpace U.S. supply, but manufacturers are deploying capacity quickly and should narrow the gap over the next few years. - Local incentives still matter
Hounen recommended using incentive databases (e.g., DSIRE) and contacting local utilities or city offices for state/local programs that could offset tariff-driven cost pressure. - Advice for homeowners beyond price & watts:
Vet installers (references, reputation), review contract terms carefully. Good partners help you navigate changing deadlines and requirements.
