The HotSpot Energy ACDC18C 18k BTU Solar Hybrid Heat Pump Mini Split is a battery-free solar air conditioner that connects directly to standard solar panels — no inverter, charge controller, or batteries required. Designed for residential and light commercial use, this solar mini split operates on DC power from 4–8 panels, AC grid power, or both simultaneously, giving it the flexibility to run cost-free during peak sun hours while staying fully operational at night or on overcast days.
Most air conditioners draw heaviest from the grid precisely when solar panels produce the most power — the ACDC18C is built to exploit that overlap. Its compressor accepts DC voltage directly from the panels, displacing up to 100% of paid-for electricity during daylight hours, with no net metering agreement or special utility meter required. When solar input falls short, the unit seamlessly blends in AC power, so there is never a gap in comfort regardless of cloud cover or time of day.
Unlike conventional off-grid HVAC approaches, the ACDC18C accepts raw DC voltage directly from the panel string, bypassing the losses and costs associated with inverters, charge controllers, and battery banks. The variable BLDC compressor (Toshiba/GMCC dual-rotary) modulates output based on available solar input, drawing down to AC power only when solar production is insufficient. No power is exported to the grid, and no net metering agreement is required.
The ACDC18C connects to any standard 72-cell solar panels rated 290–375W per panel. Panels must be wired in series to achieve the required 110–300 Vmp DC input range; a minimum of 4 panels (≥1,200W total) is required for operation, and up to 8 panels can be connected for full off-grid use or low-light resilience. Standard MC4 connectors are used throughout the solar DC wiring — no proprietary connectors required. For AC backup, the unit requires a dedicated 208–240V, 50/60Hz circuit sized for a 7.13A rated load (1.2A locked-rotor amp). The indoor and outdoor units ship as a matched pair; max lineset distance is 50 ft. with a maximum vertical elevation difference of 16 ft. No separate solar inverter, MPPT charge controller, or battery system is needed or compatible with the DC input circuit.
