Grid-Tied vs. Hybrid — Through the Eyes of Someone Who's Lived Both
Jeff Peterson spent eleven years and $37,095 of his own money finding out which one was worth it. On September 24 he walks through the numbers — including the ones that don't flatter solar.

What You'll Learn
35 yrs → 13 yrs
Payback time, without incentives vs. with them. Jeff's exact math — run it on your own house.
$5,255 of $47,895
What Jeff actually paid out of pocket for his battery upgrade. The rest came from incentives.
100kWh, zero electricians
His entire battery bank, installed by a nurse anesthetist. Whether that's realistic for you.
–20% and no one noticed
How much his panel output quietly dropped before it showed up on a chart.
Backup power ≠ lower bills
Two different purchases. Most people find out the difference during an outage.

Quick Questions
About the decision
Can I add a battery to panels I already have?
That's exactly what Jeff did. His array went up in 2014 and stayed put; the battery came eight years later, behind a Sol-Ark 15K hybrid inverter. He'll walk through what the retrofit involved, what it cost, and where the equipment already on the wall shaped his options.
Is a DIY battery install realistic for someone like me?
Jeff did his own — the bank, the wiring, the monitoring, all of it — and he's the first to say that isn't the right answer for everyone. Expect him to be specific about which parts he'd do again and which he'd hand straight to a licensed electrician.
Do panels really lose that much output?
Jeff's array is down 20.6% from its 2016 peak, which is steeper than most panel warranties predict. He won't tell you every array behaves like his. The point is that he only knew because he was reading his own meter — and he'll show you what to watch, and how often.
Will Jeff's incentive numbers apply to me?
Probably not, and it's worth saying that up front. Incentives covered 89% of his 2022 battery — an unusually good outcome that depended on where he lives and what was on offer that year. Treat every figure on this page as one homeowner's real receipts, not a quote for your house.
About the session
Is this a sales pitch?
No. This is Jeff's honest account — what worked, what he'd do differently, and what he'd skip entirely. A1 SolarStore hosts the session and sells the equipment, but Jeff doesn't work for us and isn't paid on anything you buy.
Do I need to already have solar?
Not at all. Whether you're still deciding, already have grid-tied panels, or you're weighing a battery, Jeff's numbers give you something concrete to compare your own situation against.
What if I can't make 3 PM ET?
Register anyway and we'll send you what we can. But the Q&A and the bonus only happen live.
Will there be a recording?
We may share one afterward. The bonus is for people on the live call only.
