Pytes is a lithium battery brand built for home and off-grid solar storage. LiFePO4 vs. other deep cycle batteries

A deep cycle battery is designed to be discharged regularly and recharged, over and over. That's different from a car battery, which delivers one short burst to start an engine. Solar storage, off-grid cabins, RVs, and boats all use deep cycle batteries.

The main types you'll encounter are flooded lead-acid, AGM, gel, NMC lithium, and LiFePO4. Here's how they compare for solar use:

Lead-acid, AGM, and gel batteries can only be safely discharged to about 50% of their rated capacity. That means you need roughly twice the battery to get the same usable storage compared to LiFePO4.

The cycle count gap matters too. A lead-acid battery typically lasts 300–700 full cycles before degrading. A Pytes V5 is rated for over 6,000 cycles. At one cycle per day, that's about 16 years vs. 2 years.

LiFePO4 also doesn't produce gas during charging, so it can be installed indoors without ventilation.

Pytes battery lineup

Pytes makes four models. They all run on 48V LiFePO4 chemistry and carry a 10-year warranty. The differences are in capacity, physical form, and where you'd install them.

Pytes V5 (5.12 kWh)

The V5 is a rack-mounted battery that slides into a standard server rack enclosure. It's the most common choice for indoor residential installs — utility rooms, basements, or garages with a rack setup. Up to 16 units can be connected without a hub (about 82 kWh), or scaled to 96 units with a Pytes Hub.

It has a built-in heater that activates automatically below 41°F. Compatible with EG4, Victron, Growatt, Sol-Ark, SMA, Schneider, and most major inverters.

Pytes E-Box 48100R (5.12 kWh)

The E-Box is the predecessor to the V5. Same capacity, same chemistry, slightly different enclosure. Still actively sold and carries UL9540 certification and a 10-year warranty. A solid option if it prices out better or matches your inverter's communication protocol more cleanly.

Pytes V10α (9.98 kWh)

The V10α is built for outdoor installation. IP66-rated, wall or floor mounted, and handles temperatures down to 14°F with its built-in heater. Eight internal temperature sensors monitor the cells in real time. Up to 16 units can be paralleled for about 160 kWh total.

Pytes V16 (16.07 kWh)

The V16 is the largest unit in the lineup. It uses 314Ah automotive-grade cells, delivers over 10 kW of output power, and comes with a built-in aerosol fire suppression system. Also IP66-rated for outdoor use. Up to 16 units can be paralleled for about 256 kWh.

How to choose the right Pytes battery

Key specs to look at

Capacity (kWh and Ah). Kilowatt-hours (kWh) tells you how much energy the battery stores. The right amount of solar battery storage starts with knowing your daily consumption. A home using 29 kWh per day would need two V16s or six V5s for one full day of backup. Most households start with one day of critical loads rather than total consumption.

Voltage. Pytes batteries run at 48V (nominal 51.2V), the standard for modern residential solar. Most hybrid inverters — Sol-Ark, EG4, Victron, Growatt — are built for 48V battery banks.

Depth of Discharge (DoD). Pytes batteries are rated at 90% DoD. A 100Ah Pytes battery gives you 90Ah of usable capacity. A 100Ah AGM at 50% DoD gives you 50Ah. That gap means you often need fewer Pytes units to get the same storage.

Cycle life. The V5, E-Box, and V10α are rated for 6,000 cycles; the V16 for 8,000 . Capacity stays above 80% of original for the rated cycle count. At one cycle per day, 6,000 cycles is about 16 years; 8,000 is closer to 22.

Battery storage capacity. Planning your battery storage capacity upfront saves rework later. All Pytes models support parallel connection. The V5 scales to 96 units with a hub. The V10α and V16 support up to 16 units each. If your energy needs might grow, check the expansion limits before you buy.

Inverter compatibility. Pytes batteries communicate with any battery inverter or hybrid unit via CAN bus or RS485.  They work with most major brands, but confirm compatibility before ordering. 

Cold-weather performance. All Pytes models include a built-in heater. Without one, lithium batteries can't charge safely below 32°F. The heater in Pytes units activates automatically when cell temperature drops too low — useful in climates with cold winters.

Certifications. Look for UL9540 (energy storage system) and UL9540A (thermal runaway fire test). Pytes batteries carry both.
