Does it lose a lot of energy due to self-discharge?

Self-discharge rate does not exceed 2%, which is not a lot.
For how long can it sit without being charged?

The manufacturer doesn’t recommend charges to be more than 6 months apart.
Does this battery need a battery box for winter use?

The operating temperatures of the battery are -4 °F to +140 °F. No box is necessary in this range. Keep in mind that the battery won’t charge if the temperature is below 32 °F.
