About product
The SolarEdge SE3800H-US is a 3,800W single-phase string inverter built around SolarEdge's HD-Wave technology — a grid-tied inverter designed specifically to pair with SolarEdge power optimizers for residential and light commercial solar installations across North America. As a SolarEdge HD-Wave inverter, the SE3800H-US delivers record-breaking conversion efficiency in an extremely compact, weatherproof enclosure rated for both outdoor and indoor mounting.
Traditional string inverters use large magnetic components to filter the AC waveform. SolarEdge's HD-Wave technology replaces those with a novel switching algorithm and distributed capacitors, dramatically reducing the size and weight of the unit while pushing maximum efficiency to 99% — one of the highest figures in its class. The SE3800H-US delivers more of the energy your panels produce to the grid, with less conversion loss across the full operating range.
The SE3800H-US includes built-in module-level monitoring when paired with SolarEdge power optimizers. Each optimizer reports individual panel performance data back through the inverter to the SolarEdge monitoring portal, giving installers and system owners a real-time view of output at the panel level — not just the string level. This makes fault detection faster and energy loss from shading, soiling, or module mismatch measurable and actionable.
The inverter meets NEC 2014 and 2017 rapid shutdown requirements (Articles 690.11 and 690.12) through automatic DC de-energization upon AC grid disconnect — no separate rapid shutdown device needed. Integrated AFCI protection, compliant with UL1699B and Canadian requirements, adds a second layer of electrical safety that is increasingly required by local AHJs and is built in at no additional cost.
The SE3800H-US commissions via the SolarEdge SetApp mobile application using the inverter's built-in Wi-Fi station — no display panel, no manual DIP switches. An installer connects a smartphone directly to the inverter's local Wi-Fi network, runs the SetApp workflow, and the unit is commissioned in minutes. This approach reduces setup errors and simplifies field documentation.
The SE3800H-US is a fixed-voltage string inverter designed exclusively for use with SolarEdge power optimizers — it is not compatible with microinverter-based systems or standard string configurations without optimizers. The inverter accepts a nominal DC input of 380 Vdc and supports 1–2 strings on a 3/4" minimum conduit with 14–6 AWG wire. Communication interfaces include RS485, Ethernet, and optional ZigBee and cellular modules, enabling integration with SolarEdge's cloud monitoring platform. Revenue-grade metering to ANSI C12.20 Class 0.5 (0.5% accuracy) is available as an option via the SE3800H-US000BNC4 part number. The unit operates across -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C) and delivers full rated power up to at least 122°F (50°C).
The SE3800H-US delivers 99% peak efficiency and built-in module-level monitoring without requiring external monitoring hardware — capabilities that competing inverters in this power class often charge extra for or do not offer at all. Its fixed-voltage DC architecture supports longer strings than MPPT-tracked inverters, reducing string wiring complexity in residential layouts. For installers who commit to the SolarEdge ecosystem, the combination of SetApp commissioning, integrated AFCI, and NEC 690.12-compliant rapid shutdown means fewer third-party add-ons and a cleaner permit package.
