Discover Battery has been making batteries since 1949. What started as a regional distributor is now an international manufacturer with plants in Korea, China, and Taiwan. The product line runs from golf cart traction batteries to 16 kWh residential solar storage systems. This page covers every product line, the differences between them, and the numbers worth checking before you buy.
Discover makes two main types: AGM (lead-acid) and LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate). Within those, there are several sub-lines built for different applications.
All manufacturing facilities are ISO 9001/14001 certified. Lithium models carry UL, CE, and UN38.3 transport certification. The AGM line uses Discover's proprietary DRY CELL construction, with organic capillary separators and hydropolymer electrolytes that prevent dry-out and thermal runaway. The lithium line uses AEON cycle life technology built into the battery management system (BMS).
💡 Discover has supplied batteries to major industrial OEMs for over a decade. These are not generic cells with a new label on them.
| Product line | Chemistry | Voltage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| VRLA AGM Deep Cycle | Sealed AGM | 6V / 12V | Solar backup, stationary storage |
| DRY CELL AGM Mobile | Sealed AGM | 12V | RV, marine, home medical equipment |
| DRY CELL AGM Traction / EV | Industrial AGM | 6V / 12V | Golf carts, floor scrubbers, aerial platforms |
| AES Rackmount | Lithium iron phosphate | 51.2V (per module) | Off-grid solar, residential storage |
| Discover Helios battery (HELIOS ESS) | LiFePO4 | 51.2V (48V nominal) | Home and commercial solar storage |
| Lithium Professional | LiFePO4 | 12V / 24V / 48V | Marine, RV, mobile, industrial |
Discover's VRLA AGM deep cycle batteries are the go-to for fixed installations: solar backup systems, off-grid cabins, and renewable energy storage. They're sealed, maintenance-free, and nonspillable.
If you need a straightforward AGM battery for a stationary setup and don't want to deal with the watering and ventilation requirements of flooded cells, this is where to start.
The DRY CELL Mobile line does double duty: starting power and deep cycling in the same battery. Boat and RV manufacturers use these as original equipment, which is why they work well as a drop-in RV battery or marine battery replacement. They handle vibration, temperature swings, and partial state of charge (PSOC) operation without complaint, and they never need topping off with water.
This is the heavy-use side of the AGM lineup. The Discover EV battery range covers golf cart batteries, floor scrubbers, and aerial work platforms — any industrial battery application that demands repeated deep discharges and high operating currents, shift after shift. Thick plates and graphite-enhanced alloys handle that load without degrading quickly.
The Discover AES battery — currently available as the AES Rackmount (model 48-48-5120) — Discover's LiFePO4 solution for off-grid solar battery installations and residential energy storage. It uses a standard 19" rack format, with each module delivering 5.0 kWh at 51.2V / 100 Ah. As a scalable battery system, modules stack up to 180 kWh in a closed-loop configuration.
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|

| Capacity per module | 5.0 kWh / 51.2V / 100 Ah |
| Depth of discharge | Up to 100% |
| Max scalability | 180 kWh |
| Communication protocol | Xanbus (Schneider-compatible) |
The AES batteries use AEON technology, which lets the battery run continuously in partial state of charge without cell damage. In a real solar setup, the battery often doesn't hit 100% every day, so this matters.
The Discover Helios battery is the flagship product from Discover Energy Systems. It's a wall-mounted, outdoor-rated lithium energy storage system built for residential and light commercial solar installations — whole home backup, off-grid systems, and solar battery bank setups that need serious capacity.

Pick AGM when: the budget is limited, usage is occasional, or you're swapping out a dead AGM battery in an existing system without redesigning anything.
Pick LiFePO4 when: you're designing a solar system from scratch, you need to squeeze more usable energy from a tight space, or you plan on daily cycling for a decade or more.
The math usually tips in favor of lithium over time. A lithium battery that lasts 10 years with no replacements often ends up cheaper than two or three AGM replacements over the same period.
Voltage. Must match your system: 6V, 12V, 24V, or 48V. Wrong voltage will damage your equipment.
Capacity (Ah or kWh). Estimate your daily energy consumption and add 20% overhead. Within the same battery size, higher Ah is almost always better.
Depth of discharge (DoD). How much of the rated capacity you can actually pull out. A 100 Ah AGM battery safely gives you about 50-60 Ah. A 100 Ah LiFePO4 battery gives you up to 100 Ah.
Cycle life. The number of full charge/discharge cycles before capacity drops to 80%. More cycles means fewer replacements over the system's life.
BMS. For lithium batteries, the battery management system is the safety net. It prevents overcharge, over-discharge, and temperature damage. Discover's 4th-gen BMS in the Helios monitors voltage, current, temperature, and state of charge continuously.
IP rating. Matters for outdoor or damp locations. The Discover Helios ESS is IP65-rated: fully dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction.
Inverter compatibility. Lithium batteries that communicate with your inverter via CAN bus or Xanbus allow smarter charging and better system performance. Check compatibility before buying.
Warranty terms. A 10-year warranty sounds good, but the number that actually matters is the throughput guarantee in MWh. Discover's lithium batteries have both.
If your system runs daily — a solar home, a full-time RV, a live-aboard boat — the LiFePO4 math almost always wins over time. The Helios or AES Rackmount gives you a hard warranty number (in MWh, not just years), twice the usable capacity per rated Ah, and a realistic 10-year lifespan without replacement. The AGM cost advantage disappears after the first swap.
If usage is seasonal or occasional, a DRY CELL AGM is a fair choice. It's a proven, maintenance-free battery that doesn't ask you to pay for capacity you won't use. Where AGM makes less sense is when people buy it thinking they'll "upgrade later" — by then, you've already paid for two batteries instead of one good one.
On the brand itself: Discover has been supplying batteries to industrial OEMs for over a decade. That matters less as a marketing point and more as a quality signal.
💡 When you're ready to choose, start with three numbers: your system voltage, your daily amp-hour draw, and how many days per year the battery will actually cycle. Those three figures will tell you whether you need a 5 kWh rack module or a 16 kWh outdoor unit — and whether AGM gets you there or lithium does. Our team can help you run those numbers if you're not sure where to start.
A car battery fires out a big burst of current to start the engine, then the alternator recharges it right away. A deep cycle battery is built to discharge slowly over hours and then recharge fully. Put a car battery in a solar or RV setup and it'll be dead in a few months.
Yes. A Discover deep cycle battery from the VRLA AGM line is rated for solar backup and stationary storage. It works well for smaller systems or setups that don't cycle every day. For daily solar use over many years, the AES Rackmount or Helios LiFePO4 options make more sense, since they offer more usable capacity and far more cycles.
It's Discover's name for their sealed AGM construction. Every Discover DRY CELL battery absorbs the electrolyte into a fiberglass mat between the plates rather than sitting as free liquid. The battery can be installed in any orientation, won't leak if tipped, and needs no maintenance. That's the short version.
Depends on the type. The EV-series AGM traction batteries handle hundreds of demanding cycles. The AES Rackmount is warrantied for 10 years. The Discover Helios battery comes with a 10-year, 93 MWh throughput warranty, which translates to roughly 5,800 full cycles at the rated capacity.
The Helios ESS uses an AEBus communication port and connects to inverters via the Discover Lynk II gateway adapter, which supports Sol-Ark, Victron, and several other inverter brands. Discover publishes a compatibility list on their website. If your inverter is not listed, the Helios can still operate in self-managed mode without closed-loop communication.
Yes. The Helios ESS is modular. One unit gives you 16.1 kWh. You can stack up to 36 modules for a maximum of 579.6 kWh. Pre-wired parallel kits are included to make the expansion clean and straightforward.
A1 SolarStore stocks the Discover battery series. Each listing has full specs and compatibility notes. If you're not sure which battery fits your setup, our team can help narrow it down before you commit to a purchase.
