About product
The Sol-Ark SA-18K-2P is Sol-Ark's most powerful residential-class hybrid inverter — engineered for homeowners, off-grid properties, and light commercial installations that demand maximum output, extreme surge capacity, and uncompromising reliability. As a pre-wired, all-in-one unit, it integrates an inverter, triple-channel MPPT charge controller, battery charger, load center, rapid shutdown, auto generator start, and Wi-Fi monitoring into a single factory-wired enclosure. The result is a clean, code-compliant install with fewer components, less wiring, and full split-phase 120/240V output for whole-home coverage.
The SA-18K-2P delivers 18,000W of continuous AC output at 120/240V split-phase, making it one of the highest-output residential hybrid inverters available. When grid power fails, this inverter seamlessly takes over and keeps your entire home running — not just a handful of circuits. Its 36kVA surge capacity for 10 seconds ensures that even the most demanding motor-start loads like central HVAC systems, well pumps, and power tools start without hesitation, even in a complete grid-down scenario.
Three independent MPPT charge controllers give the SA-18K-2P extraordinary solar flexibility. Each MPPT channel accepts up to 36A of input current across a voltage range of 150V–425V, supporting up to 28.8kW of direct DC solar input. When paired with an AC-coupled grid-tie inverter, total system PV capacity can exceed 40kW — making this the right inverter for large rooftop arrays, ground mounts, or multi-structure solar installations. Multiple MPPTs also let you optimize production across different roof orientations, array sizes, or shading profiles without compromise.
With 200A grid pass-through capability, the SA-18K-2P can handle the full load of a large home while simultaneously charging batteries and producing solar. No load shedding, no undersized transfer switches, no limitations on what appliances can run. When the grid is available, power flows seamlessly through the inverter to your panel at full amperage — and when the grid drops, the automatic transfer is nearly instantaneous.
Like all Sol-Ark systems, the SA-18K-2P ships pre-wired with AFCI, GFCI, and integrated rapid shutdown built in, satisfying NEC 2023 requirements without additional hardware. The all-in-one design eliminates the need for a separate combiner box, rapid shutdown device, or standalone charge controller — reducing installation time, material costs, and potential points of failure. It is fully UL 1741-SB listed and certified for both U.S. and Canadian installations.
The SA-18K-2P operates seamlessly across all three power modes: grid-tied with or without battery, full off-grid, and grid-interactive backup. It transitions automatically between modes in response to grid status, battery state-of-charge, solar availability, and your configured priorities — without manual intervention. This makes it equally at home as a whole-home backup system, a primary off-grid power solution, or a grid-tied solar-plus-storage installation.
DC coupling from solar panels to battery delivers maximum round-trip efficiency for new installations. For homes that already have a grid-tie inverter installed, the SA-18K-2P supports AC coupling, allowing existing solar production to charge batteries and power loads through the new hybrid system. No need to replace working solar equipment — the SA-18K-2P integrates with it.
Built-in Time-of-Use (TOU) programming lets you schedule battery charging and discharging around your utility's rate tiers — storing cheap off-peak power and dispatching it during expensive peak hours to reduce your monthly bill. Multi-season scheduling with day-of-week granularity gives you precise control, all managed from the unit's LCD touchscreen. Smart Load Mode allows selective control of non-critical circuits, extending battery runtime during outages and reducing unnecessary grid draw.
The SA-18K-2P supports Virtual Power Plant communication protocols, making it compatible with utility demand-response programs that compensate homeowners for dispatching stored battery energy back to the grid during peak demand events. As VPP programs continue to expand, Sol-Ark owners are positioned to generate revenue from their stored energy — not just savings.
Two independent 48V battery ports with CAN bus and RS485 Modbus communication support all major lithium battery brands including Fortress, EG4, Pytes, BYD, Pylontech, and more — while remaining fully compatible with lead-acid and AGM battery banks. Sol-Ark does not restrict battery selection to a proprietary ecosystem, giving you the freedom to choose the battery that best fits your budget, capacity needs, and chemistry preference.
The SA-18K-2P includes a dedicated generator input with automatic generator start (AGS) functionality. When battery state-of-charge drops below a configurable threshold, the inverter signals a compatible generator to start automatically, recharging batteries and powering loads without any manual involvement. Generator input is handled on a separate port from grid input, keeping the connections clean and code-compliant.
Remote monitoring is built in via Wi-Fi and LAN. Track solar production, battery levels, grid import/export, and consumption in real time from any browser or mobile device. Sol-Ark runs American-engineered firmware and stores monitoring data on U.S.-based servers — your energy data stays in the country, not on overseas infrastructure.
The SA-18K-2P comes standard with a 10-year warranty — twice the coverage of the 5K-1P and significantly longer than most competing inverters in its class. Its transformerless design operates at under 50 dB, making it quiet enough for indoor installation near living spaces. The IP65/NEMA 3R-rated enclosure protects it equally well in outdoor environments.
For commercial applications or large estates requiring more than 18kW, up to 12 SA-18K-2P units can be connected in parallel for a combined continuous output of up to 216kW — all managed as a single coordinated system.
