Do I need to install an inverter if I want to use my solar system only for charging my electric car?

In theory it is possible to charge the car battery directly using DC/DC power controllers. However, no standards have yet been developed to support this. All charging devices in electric cars use AC coupling. So, yes, you need an inverter.

SMA Sunny Boy Storage battery inverter with 6000w AC nominal output over 240V. Compatible with LG Chem RESU 10H-C and BYD Battery-Box.

The Sunny Boy Storage battery inverter has been precisely engineered to serve as the intelligent interface between the electrical grid and the LG Chem RESU 10H-C or BYD Battery-Box. Its AC coupled architecture enables installation at any point in time, providing greater flexibility and giving installers the opportunity to generate new business with existing customers. The SBS system can be added to a home with any existing PV system. For high power backup applications, install the Sunny Boy Storage with the optional 200A Automatic Backup Unit. For low power backup applications, use the built-in in Secure Power Supply feature for up to 2000W of power in the event of a grid outage both day and night.
