24 Volt Solar Panels

Each type of solar panel is divided into groups based on the operating voltage. Here, we will cover everything you need to know about 24V solar panels and help you choose the right solar panel for you.

What are 24V solar panels?

A solar panel 24V is a versatile module for 24 volt systems. A solar panel 24 volt can be used in RV or boat solar installations. It’s a great choice for a residential solar system. As a rule, when the need for electricity exceeds 2 kW, it is recommended to install 24V solar panels. The majority of inverters with a capacity of more than 2kW are designed for this voltage. A lot of inverters run on 48 volts and to use them, 24 volt solar panels simply need to be wired in series.

The average price of 24V solar panels

Since solar panels 24V are so popular in residential installations, our store always has 24 volt solar panels for sale. We have a large variety of 24V solar panels ranging from $170 to $550 per panel. Contact our managers for detailed information on delivery, warranties, and brands of 24V solar panels for sale that are available at the moment

Batteries suitable for 24V solar panels

All solar batteries we offer are compatible with 24V solar panels. They only differ by their capacity and manufacturer.

24V solar panels connection

Wiring several solar panels to each other can be performed in a few different ways depending on your situation.

In parallel

Solar panels are connected in parallel using special equipment: branch connectors and a combiner box. All negative terminals are connected to one connector and all positive terminals are connected to the other connector.

With this connection, the voltage of every solar panel stays the same. The amperage from all panels adds up. This type of connection allows to increase the amperage of the whole solar power system without raising the voltage.

In series

When connecting solar panels in series, the negative terminal of the first solar panel is connected to the positive terminal of the next solar panel, and so on.

With this type of wiring, the voltage of all panels adds up. The amperage of the system is equal to the amperage of the panel with the minimum amperage. For this reason, it is not recommended to connect solar panels with different values of the maximum current in series, since they will not work efficiently.

Series-parallel

This type of connection combines the two previous ones. Applying this method of wiring solar panels allows for regulation of the voltage and amperage within the solar power system and its most optimal mode of operation.

In series-parallel connection, solar panels are connected in series and then combined in parallel.

How to choose the right 24V solar panel

As with any solar panel, there are a few important factors that need to be taken into consideration before buying a 24V solar panel.

  • The efficiency of the solar panel
  • Power tolerance
  • Low-temperature coefficient and performance in low irradiance
  • Warranty
  • The type of solar cells
  • Price

How many 24V solar panels do I need?

To figure out how many solar panels you need, it’s important to figure your daily electricity consumption first. Since you are looking for 24 volt solar panels, it must be quite high: a 24 volt solar system is a good choice for a big house, an office, a factory or a hospital. Once you have the number for your daily energy consumption, divide it by the number of peak sun hours in the area where you live and you’ll get the power of a solar array that you need, which is a sum of powers of every panel in the array. The power of a panel of 24 volt is usually much higher than the one of 12 volt, which is the reason they are popular in installations of a larger scale.

Keep in mind that when you are dealing with a 24 volt panel, it requires slightly different equipment than a 12V one. The reason for this is high solar panel output voltage, which goes up to 32V. To simplify the process, many manufacturers offer complete kits with all the equipment you need. For example, a 24 volt solar panel kit contains panels, a charge controller with a higher maximum voltage, an inverter, a 24V battery and all the wires that you’ll need.
