Think if the company’s called Philadelphia Solar, they make their panels in Pennsylvania? Far from it – these modules are born under the hot Jordanian skies. And that’s not the only thing the company can surprise you with. Get ready – here comes our Philadelphia Solar panel review 2024.
Despite its name, Philadelphia Solar is a Jordanian manufacturer of solar panels, mounting structures and lithium-ion batteries. The company was founded in 2007 with its factory and headquarters based in Amman, Jordan.
What’s the story behind the name? Here is what Philadelphia Solar Export Sales Engineer Banan Al-Garalleh told A1 SolarStore:
Amman, the capital city in Jordan, was once called Philadelphia by the Greeks, who rebuilt it as one of the cities of the Decapolis (Editor’s note: a group of ten Hellenistic cities on the eastern frontier of the Roman Empire in the Southern Levant). Philadelphia means "brotherly love", which is a combination of two Greek words: love (phileo) and brother (adelphos).
Current production volumes are a modest 800 megawatts. In 2024, Philadelphia Solar registered a company in the US called Philadelphia Solar for Renewable Energy and plans to start a 1.2 gigawatt factory in the USA by the end of 2025.
The benefits of manufacturing PV modules in Jordan are that Jordan has a strategic geographical location so we have lower transit times to the US, and our panels are exempted from AD/CVD, section 201, and any tariffs. One of the challenges we are facing in the US market is that our panels don’t comply with IRA requirements as they are made in Jordan.
400W – 640W – power output
Philadelphia Solar offers a wide range of panel options, catering to both residential and commercial needs. With power outputs ranging from 400 to 640 watts, homeowners and businesses can choose the panel size based on their specific requirements of their project.
20.5% – 23.5% – efficiency
In terms of efficiency, Philadelphia Solar panels fall within the average to high range, with efficiency ratings ranging from 20.5% to 23.5%. This makes them especially handy for homes with small roofs or limited space.
12-25 years – product warranty
When it comes to warranty coverage, Philadelphia Solar panels are backed with a 12 to 25-year product and a 25 to 30-year performance warranties with over 85% of their initial power output maintained after 25 to 30 years in service. These warranties align with industry standards, offering reliable protection for panel owners.
Philadelphia Solar panels are not as cheap as Chinese solar panels, but less expensive than American and European modules. Generally, they are falling in the medium price range, allowing to build a powerful solar system at a relatively budget-friendly price.
