Canadian Solar is a global manufacturer of solar panels and related products, with a history that dates back to 2001. The company was founded by Dr. Shawn Qu, a Canadian entrepreneur who had previously worked in the semiconductor industry. Dr. Qu recognized the potential for solar energy to become an important source of renewable power, and he set out to establish a company that could help to make this a reality.
In the early years of its history, Canadian Solar focused on research and development, as well as building manufacturing capacity. The company established its first manufacturing plant in Canada in 2003, and by 2006, it had begun to expand into other markets, including China and the United States.
Panasonic Solar is a division of Panasonic Corporation, focused on the design, development, and production of solar panels and related products for both residential and commercial markets.
The origins of Panasonic's solar division can be traced back to the early 1970s, when the company began to research and develop solar technology. In 1975, Panasonic released its first solar cell, which had a conversion efficiency of 14.2%. This was a significant achievement at the time, as the best solar cells on the market had efficiencies of around 12%.
Panasonic Solar panels are manufactured in various locations around the world, including Japan, Malaysia, and the United States.
One of the largest manufacturing facilities for Panasonic Solar is located in Osaka, Japan. This facility produces a wide range of solar products, including solar cells, modules, and systems.
In addition, Panasonic operates a manufacturing plant in Kulim, Malaysia, which produces solar cells and modules for the global market. The Kulim facility is one of the largest solar manufacturing facilities in Southeast Asia and is designed to produce up to 1 GW of solar cells and 600 MW of solar modules per year.
