LG and SunPower both put out the most expensive and the most advanced solar panels on the market. Which brand is better and whose panels win out in a side-by-side comparison? See for yourself in our LG solar panels vs SunPower comparison.
LG Solar is a division of the South Korean electronics company LG Electronics. It specializes in the manufacturing and development of solar panels for use in residential and commercial solar energy systems.
LG Solar offers a range of high-quality solar panels with a variety of specifications to meet the diverse needs of customers. Their panels are known for their efficiency, durability, and longevity, and they offer a 25-year warranty on their products to ensure customer satisfaction.
In addition to solar panels, LG Solar also offers a range of other products and solutions for the solar energy market, including solar inverters, energy storage systems, and complete solar energy systems.
Overall, LG Solar is recognized as a leading player in the global solar energy industry, with a reputation for producing innovative and high-quality products. Unfortunately, LG decided to stop the manufacturing of solar panels and quit the market.
SunPower is a US-based company that specializes in the design, manufacture, and delivery of high-efficiency solar panels and solar energy systems. SunPower was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in San Jose, California.
SunPower is known for producing some of the most efficient solar panels on the market, with some of its panels reaching efficiencies of over 22%. This means that they can convert a higher percentage of the sun's energy into usable electricity compared to other solar panels.
SunPower also offers a range of other solar energy solutions, including residential and commercial solar energy systems, energy storage systems, and financing options. They work with certified installers to provide customers with a complete turn-key solar energy solution.
Which one is better? We decided to make a table with all the advantages and disadvantages of LG solar panels vs Sunpower PV modules.
Pros:
1. High performance. More sunshine can be converted into power by LG solar panels than by PV modules from most other manufacturers.. NeoN R showed an efficiency of 22.3% in 2022.
2. Quality. Customers frequently comment on how well LG solar panels are made. The manufacturing facilities are located in the US and Korea. The panels are good for a variety of climates because they are made to withstand severe weather, including strong winds and large snow loads.
3. Warranty. LG provides a 25-year warranty package that covers the components, electricity output, and labor.
Cons:
1. Cost. LG solar panels are among the most expensive PV modules available.
2. Limited product. There won't be any new panels for the time being because LG has quit the market.
Pros:
1. Sunpower panels are the most efficient which means that they can convert more sunlight into power. The highest conversion rate they attained was 22.8% by the end of 2022.
2. Superior warranties. For some models, the brand provides a 40-year product and performance warranty, while it provides a 25-year warranty for all other models. After 40 years, the panels still provide more than 88% of their original power.
3. Exceptional quality and a stellar reputation. Reviews of SunPower solar panels are largely favorable, and both professionals and consumers adore the company.
4. American design. Although the panels are put together in Asia, the design was created by American engineers. Additionally, it's comforting to know that a company's roots are in Silicon Valley.
Cons:
1. High price. The cost of Maxeon and SunPower solar panels is unquestionably among the highest available, if not the most expensive. Prior to installation, their price per watt ranges from $1.5 to $3.
2. Emphasis on residential projects. Although the company sells panels for mobile solar installations and commercial systems, it is not their area of expertise.
Let’s compare the two best panels from two manufacturers. We are particularly fond of their AC panels and so that’s what we picked.
An AC variation of the Neon R LG 435 solar panel, this panel comes with a built-in micro inverter. It provides better efficiency and shading protection. The downside of AC modules is the higher cost and the maintenance is more difficult. The panel is great for residential systems. It comes with 25-year warranties for product and performance.
An AC panel from SunPower Maxeon comes with a built-in micro inverter from Enphase. The module provides 440 W of output with 22.8% efficiency. Micro inverters have superior monitoring capabilities compared to string inverters. The inverter from Enphase works at 96.5% efficiency. The panel comes with a 40-year warranty from SunPower for product and performance. There is also a 25-year product warranty for the micro inverter which is covered by Enphase.
