They typically cost $1,000 or more than a string inverter on a standard 5kW residential solar installation. However, they allow for a much easier system expansion than a string inverter and ensure greater energy savings. It means that in the long term, micro inverters for solar systems may turn out to be cheaper than conventional inverters. So, you get what you pay for.
