Commercial solar panels

Solar power is getting more and more popular not only among residential owners, but also with commercial projects. Solar panels are considered a smart investment, plus they can alleviate the electricity bill of a company. Not only do PV modules provide you with green energy, they also improve the public image of your enterprise. By using solar panels, businesses show that they care about reducing carbon footprint and ensuring a better future for our planet.

What are commercial solar panels?

Solar panels for commercial use are usually monocrystalline. Polycrystalline and thin-film panels are cheaper, but have lower efficiency and thus produce less energy. There are other types of panels that are used in commercial systems, like bifacial panels, concentrated PV cells modules or integrated panels. However, they are much more expensive and aren’t that widespread on the solar market.

Choosing the right panels for commercial use

Commercial solar panels are usually more powerful than PV modules for residential use. Space is rarely the issue with commercial installations, so it makes sense to go for bigger panels: 72-cell, 96-cell, 120-cell or even 144-cell PV modules. Bigger panels allow you to build a system of the same energy production with less modules. Due to the same reason, commercial solar systems are more efficient than residential ones on average.

The installation of commercial systems usually takes place on the flat roof or on the ground, which makes the whole process cheaper and easier. However, the scale of a system is bigger, so the whole installation process sometimes can take several months.

Before the purchase, think about the positioning of your panels and the weather in your area. Is it hot there? Will your panels get enough sunlight? Will they be subjected to shading? Depending on the answers, it makes sense to pick panels that will perform best in your circumstances. Some models show great efficiency on cloudy days, some have high shading tolerance, some barely lose power output at high temperatures.

Technical features of commercial solar panels

  • A frame from anodized aluminum makes a module very durable and resistant to hail, wind and storms.
  • High wattage and a bigger number of solar cells allow you to produce more energy from a square foot.
  • Easy installation
  • Compatibility with 12V, 24V and 48V systems.

What is the average price of commercial solar panels?

Commercial solar panel cost per watt is usually lower than it is with residential panels, because the scale of installation is bigger. The price of a panel depends on the manufacturer. You can get a cheaper module from a Chinese brand, but European and Japanese companies offer products of the highest quality. Commercial solar panels for sale in our store have a price range between $150 and $550. Don’t forget that you can reduce the cost of a system with the Federal Solar Tax Credit (ITC) program. In 2021-2022 the state proposes a tax credit worth 26% of the solar system cost. In 2023 it decreases to 23% and after 2024 you’ll get no more than 10% refund.

Don’t let the cost of a solar system scare you. There is a reason why solar power is called a smart investment. On average, a solar panel system in the USA pays for itself in 7-8 years. After that panels start to bring in profit. Since the average lifespan of a solar panel is more than 25 years, it is possible to say that a solar system pays for itself 3 times!
