24V inverters for solar systems are designed to be paired with 24V solar panels and 24V battery. This is a popular voltage for residential solar systems: 12V equipment is more suited for ships and recreational vehicles and 48v parts are more suited for commercial systems. Why do you need an inverter?
Solar 24V inverters perform a variety of tasks for your system:
- convert DC from panels to AC
- maximize the power output of an array with MPPT technology
- help you monitoring the system: measure the performance of panels and the load of a battery
- act as another safety barrier
- interact with commercial grid
The installation of Inverters for 24V solar panels should be performed by professionals, especially in grid-tie systems, because they have to connect the inverter to the grid. Pick a dry cool spot without any sunlight for your device. Keep in mind that the inverter should be close to the battery to minimize the energy losses.
Wiring an inverter with a battery
Connecting together an inverter and a battery is usually simple: positive and negative terminals just have to be wired together with thick cables or electrical connectors in some cases. Read the manual for your solar 24V inverter carefully – it contains all the necessary information about wiring and maintenance.
Inverter maintenance
No other component of a solar system has such a wide range of tasks. For this reason inverters are very complicated and vulnerable. For it to serve you for many years take the following measures.
- wipe the dust off of it
- clean the air intake filters
- check the connections to the battery from time to time
